[thelist] Simple code for thumbnail imagemap?

Hi! Short time lurker, second-time poster; loving the show though
it's far busier here than I was led to believe! :')
I've been coding static pages for a while, but my understanding has
been stuck at the level of the 'mailto:' link for a while now; it's
time to grow past that. One way would be to see some simple "toy"
solutions to common problems. Like this one....
I have a 'contact sheet' of thumbnails, which I turned into a client
side image map with "MapThis!" It works okay having each thumbnail
simply bring up the associated full-size image, but I'd like to "wrap"
them by creating a common .html file where I could set a bgcolor, add
a "back" button, etc. The tutorial value comes from the decision
that I'd like to do this just once, and pass it the filename as a
parameter.
(No database, and no arrays, yet; the pics are all odd sizes and shapes
anyway, so having the initial imagemap as a static page is fine, thanks.
Let's walk before we run!)
What approach immediately comes to mind? The one you'd scribble on
a Starbucks napkin...? Thanks in advance!
