hi mark - i've been using textpad[0] for almost two years now, and i
like it a lot. it's worked well for large files as well as bits and
pieces of code, and it has syntax highlighting for almost anything (and
you can write your own). i mostly use it for txt, php, xml, and sql
files, but have used it for just about anything else i've run into.
i've also heard a lot of great things about vim (VI iMproved)[1] - if
you've used VI before, this is a good [GUI] extension of it. if you
haven't, there's a bit of a learning curve, but from what i've seen,
it's worth it. enjoy, and good luck in your search.
