If the 'downstairs pc'  is the one you wrote this email from then you
should consider changing your mail, isp and other passwords asap.
Password security under windows, yes even windows 98, is equivilent to a
door without a lock. It is very easy and quick to copy the 'encripted'
passwords to a diskette and decript them later. If no interest was shown
in other items of value around your house this could have been what was
being searched for.
