hi neroli
yes, i get this message once in a while, i think only after a crash or
power-down while outlook express was open
i just delete this message, but only after making a new folder and copying
all the messages out just in case (maybe i'm being too cautious, but i once
lost some outlook express messages when i re-installed ie4)
in any case i don't *think* it originates outside of outlook express like
an email virus
you are right to be careful about anything weird that shows up in your
inbox

p.s. deconstructing microsoft error messages can be fun...
"this text is [something] and is not a real message," reminds me of "this
is not a pipe" and is far too deep for microsoft to have meant anything
other than "there was an error"
besides, *what* important folder data will be lost? how do i recreate it?
why can't outlook express grab it, since it knows it will be lost and knows
how to reset it to initial values? how come nothing noticeable changes when
i do delete it?
typical microsoft error message, it does little to inform you, and leaves
you feeling more frightened than before you got it
