I just wanted to say that I think its great that so many here are
1.) offended by the etoys vs etoy dispute.
2.) offended by trademark issues that etoys is claiming.
3.) willing to put time in to stopping such actions in the future.
These kind of issues are directly related to how evolt came into
existance.
Being an active part of evolt is a privilege, and with that privilge
comes responsibilty. We are all a part of something greater than the
etoy dispute. Evolt.org(and all of you) have an obligation to stand up
for the rights of an entity like etoy.com.
Six months ago, we didnt have much of a voice, but now we're regarded as
a community of serious Internet professionals - we now need to exersize
our infuence so that people know that the actions that etoys.com has
brought forth wont be tolerated. In short, its time to yell and scream
to make sure that this injustice is in fact noticed.
Our etoys-sucks.com site is a first step. But as was mentioned, we need
to protest against these kind of things now, *and* in the future, and we
need as many hands on deck as possible to get the word out.
I'm finding that almost a year after I fouded evolt that we're evolving
into something greater than a place for web developers to share coding
tips. We've become a voice of reason, a place where these sorts of
issues are acted upon in the correct and just manner.
We now have a voice that is heard, its our(and i mean everyones)
resposibility to make sure that injustices like the etoy(s) fiasco are
not left upon deft ears.
