I would say mostly a desire to cut down on typing time, plus habit. And I
can't remember the details, but I remember seeing in some trivia thing
something about the letter "x" being a perfectly acceptable abbreviation for
"Christ". Something about the "x" being representative of the cross or
something. As I said, I don't remember all the details.
