because MS Word and Excel format are proprietary and have no
security protocols in place... why spread macros viruses by
sending MS Word documents around the globe? just make some
stupid chain mail with a link to a page with a .doc refresh or
embed, and boom, infect-o-rama...
at least PDF doesn't *force* open the document unless you specify
it (at least when i install it), and even then, the security threat is
minimal and restricted to in-document JavaScript...
