Just like you can get a cheaper version of SQL server, you can do the
same for Oracle. The really really really expensive versions of 8i for
example are only on like 16 CPU Solaris boxes. Then there's the whole,
"Oh shit, my site just got popular and SQL Server doesn't scale"
marketing blitz that I could get into.. But that would just be another
holy war ;)

The niche that my company has is we not only host a website and a dsn,
but we have our backend on oracle.. So instead of our clients having to
go out and buy an Oracle license for their e-commerce site, they just
pay us more to host it here and use our database. We paid a shitload for
our License so our clients wouldn't have to. Kinda like application
hosting or something.. *shrug*
