This is real good advice from Jorah.

I think I can speak for the majority of people on this list when I say that
the thing that got us started was curiosity about building the web.
Hopefully, this curiosity drives people to learn all about how to do it.

When I began I didn't know a single HTML tag, but I spent about 6 months
just plugging away at building real sites and ended up landing a job. Of
course it was a little easier at the time, as there were a lot less site
son the net and a lot less people competing for the web jobs. However, the
same essential fact is true - the information is all out there, you just
need to go and grab it with both hands and then apply it to a real website,
either as a free job for a charity, or a school, or a small local business,
or for that project of your own you have been dreaming about.

As for where to look, well webmonkey.com has been recommended, but you
could also take a look at http://www.webdeveloper.com
Then, don't forget to use "view source" on sites that give you inspiration
- not so much to steal their code, but to be inspired by it and learn by
example. If you are using a PC and are looking for a great HTML editor that
will give you the freedom to get into the code, while making life easier
for you while you are beginning, then you could try 1stPage 2000 from
http://www.evrsoft.com

Good luck "jerrythepirate" (cool name).
