Ummm.  I think Adrian was asking about self-taught versus school-trained.
In my limited experience, school-trained people have a lot easier time
getting the interview, but I know quite a few self-trained people who are
good who have good jobs... this may be one of the few fields any more where
it is possible to get a decent job without a degree.
