[thelist] password for local server

I know I asked this once before, but I can't find the answer in the archive
(I even tried looking for all of my posts--it would be cool to be able to
list them all, and probably the most effective search tool).

Anyway, I'm using IIS on my machine (win2K--I'm brave) just for local
verification and when I go into the site (http://localhost/) using netscape
it prompts me for a username/password. I tried entering an administrator
combo and it wouldn't let me in. I tried going into control panels >
internet services manager and changing the setting for Default Web Site >
Directory Security to Allow Annonymous Access. I also tried adding ownership
permissions to the Internet Guest Account for my local wwwroot folder. What
am I doing wrong!?

Also, is there a way to block access from all domains except the local one?
Is there a reason to do this? Do I need worry about this or other security
issues if I don't really plan to have anyone browsing my machine.

Hmm... looks like I need a primer on IIS. Can anyone reccommend a good one?

Thanks,

Micah
