On a side note, I wonder what people on evolt think of Jeffrey's ideas in
general? He came and spoke at our company in Sweden a couple of weeks ago
and I have to say I thought he was a pretty good speaker. (I've been
running across various of Jeffrey's projects since the dark ages of the web
anyway).
Considering his talk was about the importance of independence in web
design, free thought, a little about standards and a lot about alternatives
to the bland corporate face of the web (Advice such as "Never work on a
project you don't believe in.") - and then considering that our company is
a pretty large (1,300 employees) B2B web company, I felt that he was pretty
darn good as a speaker.
One of his central points was the importance of having a personal site as a
web developer. I can echo this. I have several sites I work on in my spare time
(http://cookstour.org
http://wapwarp.com
http://www.bastardos.yoyo.org ) and I feel that they give me an important
outlet to try out new techniques, and have some creative free
expression. How do other evolters feel about this?
Hmm, well, that was a rambling kind of message, so although it isn't really
offtopic, I feel I should prolly tip in any case:-)
<tip type="Personal Site">
IMHO having a personal site is a wise move as a web developer. Even if it's
a simple blog (see http://www.blogger.com for a definition), having
somewhere to practise some techniques and vent a little creative steam now
and again is a Good Thing (tm).
