As was said, probably in DOS there's a way. I've dabbled in  batch
renaming utilities for Windows but none have impressed me. I always end
up moving them to a *nix box and doing something like the stuff on:

(though admittedly what you're doing would be a bit different. If you
can move 'em to a nix server maybe someone can help)

A Better Finder Rename is a wonderful batch renaming utility on the mac side:
