[thelist] Accessing remote data sources in CF

If you can't map a drive to the access database, you'll have to use UNC
naming (\\myserver\mypath\mydatabase.mdb). You'll have to set up the Cold
Fusion service to run as a user that has access to the path.

If you upsize to SQL 7, you will just need to make sure that SQL port is
open on your firewall.

Subject: [thelist] Accessing remote data sources in CF

Hi all.

I ran into a new problem today, and was hoping someone may have an answer
for me.

Let me preface this by saying that I spent the day looking through
documentation and Allaire support forums for this, and couldn't find it.

What I need to (want to) do is access a database that lives on a machine
behind our firewall from the web server that lives outside it. I am trying
to set this Access database up as a datasource in CF, and it's failing.

The particulars:

Both server and database live on NT.
I do have control of the firewall, so changes can be made.
I can convert the database to SQL7 if that will help.
Mapping the drive with the database on it would present an unacceptable
security risk, so I really want another way to do it (unless there is a way
to do this securely).

Any thoughts?

TIA
