Hiya

That beetle is done in QuickTime VR. You can render VR in panorama or "item
in the middle" views.

I think this is what you want to accomplish:
http://www.vw.com/newbeetle/360cam.htm

But producing such an effect would be costly in one of two ways:
* equipment
* time and skilled manpower (if you were to try to do this without the
needed equipment)

I think for the beetle interior shots they cut part of the top off a car and
using a camera mounted on a special crane-like arm, they remotely pivoted
the camera on the arm to take the photos at specific intervals (degrees).
The rest was done as described in another email.

You could just take static photos of the most useful interior and exterior
angles of the car, and then create a JavaScript rollover which would pop up
images of the various feature photos. That would be a much cheaper and
simpler means to an end. It wouldn't be as snazzy (thought if done well it
could look damn good), but it might be do-able. Maybe not something exactly
like: http://www.vw.com/newbeetle/photos.htm, but that's kinda the idea.

Why not call the Beetle marketing department and ask how it was done? VW

I love my new green Beetle (#CCFF99)!

Good luck,
Marlene
