I started that thread that harped on isaac, and then accidentally continued
to send mail to the list that I intended for offlist. I owe.

<tip type="command prompt shortcuts" author="Xav">
I still use the command prompt. Sometimes it's just faster for someone who
teethed on Dos 2.0...

add "set dircmd=/ogn /p" in your autoexec.bat to get the most of your DIR's
If you reboot to DOS (er, I mean the command prompt) to, say, play a game or
to use another OS, you can create your own custom setup (autoexec, config,
etc) by simply making a shortcut to command.com

<tip type="unix prompt" author="Xav">
I find it useful to include in my *nix prompt a location (a la dos) as well
as a hardcoded "servername". This keeps me from getting confused if I'm
telnet-tunnelling.

<tip type="work overload" author="Xav">
If you are a webmaster for a company (internally), keep in mind how each
"pet project" your boss has in mind may add to your daily regimen. As in if
you are already running and updating 4 or 5 intranet websites with two more
in the works and you are asked to produce an internal "What we are doing"
page with meeting notes and status for all projects as well as "about us"
information, remember to ask, specifically, who is going to be updating this
content, and if it's going to be you, who will take over all of your other
work?
</tip>

<tip type="external or internal zip" author="Xav">
You may be tempted to go for the speed of an internal zip drive, but keep in
mind that if you ever intend on using this zip drive elsewhere (like
bringing large source files to a client), you will want the portability of
an external drive. You may be willing to open up a friend's unit, but it's
probably not smiled upon at a client site. ;)
</tip>

I think, perhaps, I've atoned for now. Until I do something silly again ;)
I look forward to it.
