[thelist] What does this mean?

I just purchased an affiliate script and am having problems getting it to 
work right.  So far, I have been unable to get an email back from the 
programmer.   No biggie, he has answered other questions.  Anyhow, I am 
having problems with these two lines.
$cashflow =~ /\,//g;
$cashflow =~ /\$//g;

Can someone tell me what they do?
