A note about the way retinae sense color:
A significant group of people (usually men) suffer from red-green
colorblindness to one extent or another.
Now (shame on me) I do not know what a severely red-green-colorblind
user sees (I will track down research if no-one else can). It goes
without saying, though, that colorblindness is an issue that we as
Webvolk need to consider...

These days, most decent video hardware drivers allow you to set color
curves for your display independently of both Photoshop and your CRT.
Use this feature liberally, as people do not always keep their monitors
at factory settings - and usually don't have monitor settings like
yours. Gamma is only part of the picture.
