[thelist] Designer / developer confusion

Hi Adrian,

I'm looking too, and it's been pretty obvious that when employers post a
position as "web developer" they usually mean more of a back-end bent.
Depending on where you are, hopefully there is a plethora of jobs and that
"web designer" won't be too narrow a focus. If that's what you want to do,
definitely try to stick to it.

I came across a great job search site today:
http://www.dice.com/jobsearch/. I was looking for web *design* work, and I
used the following Boolean string, which really helped narrow the focus of
the results (YMMV):
(web and design) not (Oracle or Sun or LDAP or SSL or VB or DCOM or PKI or
Linux or SQL or C++ or Java or Cisco or LAN or CTI or CBT or (visual and
basic) or BPR or IDEF or routers or (object and oriented) or BSA or UNIX or
BGP or PHP or Perl)

Another good sister-resource for contractors would be:
http://www.contractprofessional.com/

Finally, check out the searchable results of a recent salary survey at:

Good luck,
Marlene
