it sounds to me like in an attempt to cover all your bases and get this to
work, you've inadvertently made this much harder than it needs to be.  even
after reading your explanation and seeing some example code i'm still unsure
as to what this page *does*.  without knowing what you're trying to do, i
can't really offer any suggestions as to what the recommended solution would
be.

so, without posting snippets of code or talking about what you've tried to
do to get it to work, why don't you try explaining what this template and
it's associated action template are supposed to do?  there most likely is
another, simpler way of achieving the desired result.
