The IAB is a good resource:

For standard ad sizes, see:
http://www.iab.net/iab_banner_standards/bannersizes.html
The most common banner size is 468x60. In addition to what the IAB
represents, Yahoo and others are also using a new size: 230x33.

Also, have your client look up "do it yourself banner ads" on Google, lots
of stuff there.
