The vacancy I describe below is a Web Designer position in Washington DC.

I recently interviewed for several jobs, and ended up having a very
difficult decision between two of the offers. The company I *didn't* choose
(http://www.smarthinking.com/) has all the signs of being a fabulous place
to work. I was completely bowled over by the warmth of the people (I think
I met all 15 people in the company), I was attracted to the concept behind
their products, and I think the work would be interesting and challenging.
The down-side for me is that the company is a start-up, and I was seeking a
more established company this time around (I've worked at 3 start-ups in
the last 5 years).

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

SMARTHINKING, INC. is a Washington, DC-based Internet company providing
on-line, real-time supplemental instruction and tutoring services for
higher-education students enrolled in courses that are relatively standard
across institutions. SMARTHINKING has completed its first round of funding
and is expecting explosive growth!

We are looking for a graphic artist to join our Content Development team.
You'll collaborate with multimedia producers, web programmers and
subject-matter experts to design interactive content for our Web-based
educational service. You'll also work on traditional print-based marketing
and outreach materials.

We are seeking a creative individual with at least two years' experience in
graphic design and a concentration in web design (relevant academic
training may compensate for up to one year of professional experience.)
Understanding the intricacies and methods of graphic design as it pertains
to the Internet is an absolute must. Expert knowledge of HTML and interface
design is essential. A strong understanding of DHTML, CSS and Javascript is
a plus. Experience in traditional print design is very helpful.

Candidate must be:

* Able to take projects from concept to final product
* Willing to work in a Windows development environment
* Able to develop and troubleshoot pages and art for both IE and Netscape
* Able to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects is requisite.

Portfolio: The ideal candidate must provide samples of web-related work,
print and publication work and multimedia samples.

Technical requirements: The ideal candidate will have complete mastery of
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator on the Windows platform. A strong
understanding of Macromedia Fireworks, Flash and Dreamweaver is desired.
Familiarity with other applications such as Page Maker, Freehand, Premiere
and After Effects is a plus.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will include stock
options.
