In my humble opinion, go for 580 pixels wide. This will take into
account 640x480 on mac and pc in most browsers. I do all my sites to this
width- even liquid sites (see following site still under development)

I love liquid layouts- can be hard to do but worth it in the end.
Ive seen so many cool sites that are really let down by there alignment
to the left leaving a lot of blank space to the right on my 1024x768 screen.
