Thanks for the mounting point tip, Daniel!!
It's getting a little clearer! .... But I'm sure I'll be back with more
questions.
(1) Mount Points. Okay ... so I don't need separate partitions and
mount points for different directories? Coolio!! ... It seemed like
overkill to me, anyway ............[The install guide is recommending
separate partitions and mount points for "/" and "/home" ---- as a starting
point ..... and "/home", "/usr", "/usr/local", "/tmp", "/var", "/", and
"/usr/src" for servers.] This is what kinda had me confused. I really only
wanted two logical drives - one for Win98 and one for Linux.
It sounds like only setting up "/" will do that for me ....
Thanks! ... I'll go there!
(2) Portability! .... Ah, but that's the rub! ... No cd-burner in the
office, Daniel - only at home .... No zipdrive either!! .... [Would I want
to do this with floppies - no - but I'm not seeing a feasible (i.e.
non-company-capital) option.] .....And my tape drive no longer works - since
they upgraded me to NT .... So I need a way to break up a large file on an
NT box ... port it home on floppies --- (lots and lots of floppies!... egad)
--- and recombine, unzip, "detar", whatever, and install ... on Linux at
home.
Cute trick, eh?
Any other ideas?
Ron
