whoa, good one, never thought of that

just curious, but why?

+1
in webreference's "hiermenus" (http://webreference.com/dhtml/hiermenus/),
wrap is a "feature"
you have to specify a pixel width for the menus (i wish you could set a
width for each level, but no, one pixel value fits all...)
any option text longer than this pixel width, it gets wrapped
now, to me wrap is unattractive, so i make a special effort to remove
extraneous words, words that aren't needed (ha ha, words that aren't
needed, get it? extraneous? oh, never mind...)
<tip>
it's quite effective if you can cut a seven-word link down to two,
*especially* if you have the authority to go to the page in question and
change its <title> and <h1> from seven words to two as well...
</tip>
i am really in love with those hiermenus
they completely kill the last reason for frames in our intranet, that the
nav bar be accessible on screen at all times (as if that was ever a good
reason to start with...)
once you've used a nav scheme implemented in hiermenus, you won't care that
they have scrolled off the top of the page you've been reading, you will
make it your business to learn ctrl-home to get back to the top of a page,
just so you can use those hiermenus again...
