For a great alternative to QuickRes, check out MultiRes here:
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ (about midway down the page under free
software).
For all of you that don't know about QuickRes, QuickRes was written by
Micrsoft as one of those little utilities found in MS's Poweruser's
collection of apps. Running in the tray for win95+ it, it allowed quick
changing of screen resolution/color depth without the need for rebooting.
MultiRes, the program above, does all of this, along with many other
features including tweaking the refresh rate and support for different
settings on mulit-monitor setups.
Great little app, esp for those needing to check out websites in different
res/color combos.
