On the absolute, non-negotiable condition that you
have appropriate alt-text. And even then, it shouldn't be
your default design choice.

If you want a shock and to reconsider your design (and
you have access to Windows), go to the Control Panel and
to Accessibility Options. Turn on the option for High-Contrast,
which also makes the fonts huge. *Then* test your site.
