since audio/text browsers speak the content (or display it as text), 
spacer .gifs don't matter to them.. so instead of letting display as 
[INLINE] or having the voice say, "image" (or whatever it says), just 
us a blank alt and the browser will skip it... after all, why describe a 
spacer .gif to someone who can't see it?
