If every page is parsed already for ssi's, just rename them all to .html 
and follow Anthony Barratta's advice as I did..write a text file:

Note: You can set it up so your SSIs are also parsed by including the 
extension of
the SSIs, I use .ssi. This way you can nest SSIs.
