I've actually used that message to scare away small time snoops.  The IP
address was actually collected when a login form was filled out to get to a
file download page.  The files weren't sensitive enough to warrant password
protection but, the 'IP logged' message was enough to make my boss feel safe
about it.  It also helped us know which consultants were actually retrieving
the updated files and which ones were ignoring our update notices.
