I also got a lot from Perl5 for Dummies and by going through every free/
available Perl script I could find and working out how it did what it did,
and the O'Reilly Bighorn Sheep Book (Perl Cookbook) has a bunch
of snippets.

Finally, as Perl started out as a Unix tool, and took ideas from a number
of powerful shell commands (grep, sed and awk mainly), learning a bit
of Unix shell scripting is going to help you get your head around why
Perl does things the way(s) it does.
