My biggest tip is more of a warning, but it might be something to think
about.  I had a successful web / consulting business that I ran out of my
home for close to three years.  This meant I didn't have a professional
office space to meet with clients, so I always went on-site, or did lunch
meetings.

When I opened an office, I never saw a penny of the money we made.  

Definitely sit down and write a business plan, then write a budget to get
your business plan off the ground.
