The best way to do things, IMO, it to use .htaccess

There's a good tutorial at:
http://www.webservepro.com/htaccess.shtml

Also, searching on Google.com for 'htaccess' will turn up a whole bunch of
stuff. It's very simple, really. You just create a text file called .htaccess
that's formatted correctly (see tutorials) and pointing to the password file,
which you create with a command via telnet (or OS prompt if you have direct
access to the box).
