[thelist] JavaScript: Get contents of second window

Does anyone know of a way to see the contents of a second window using
JavaScript? By this I mean is there an object property which'll give me the
underlying html of a shown page? You'd sort of hope that document.body would
do it but it doesn't.

I have a nasty feeling that this is just not possible but I'd like a second
(and possible third :-) opinion on this. (And I'm aware of workarounds to
this if you control the server's output but not if you don't.)
