haven't been following this thread, but i would like to add one experience for
you to ponder:

with certain browser versions i have run into forms that will NOT submit when
the enter key is pressed. call it a default if you will, i am not really quite
sure if it is truly the browser default tho.

the point IS: in the browser that won't submit by accidentally pressing the
<enter> key, the last thing i do is hit tab, which brings me to the next
*field*:  the <enter> key.  press enter and voila, the form now submits on
pressing <enter> because it is the last highlighted element.

perhaps this is a way to "disable" the accidental pressing of the <enter> key
unless the active field is the submit button.  i have, however, run into a
mindboggling number of people who don't know or aren't used to pressing tab to
move between fields (how long has this been a standard??), but i suppose they
are mouse driven and would expect <submit> to work only when clicked...
