Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

I'm still mourning
http://www.whatis.com/

Cheers

<tip type="things to do when you're redeveloping a site">
If you're revamping a site (say moving it onto a different
backend), then for crying out loud, put in a redirect from all
the old URLs to the new ones.

And then don't move them again.

That way, you won't upset your users who used to type
in things like http://www.whatis.com/dhcp and get the
answer, nor your biggest advocates: your users who
link to you.

And while I'm thinking about databases again (and since Dan pointed out
three recent web site takeovers)...When did databasecentral.com get bought
and redesigned into an icky, icky portal? Why do companies feel the
overwhelming need to break perfectly good interfaces? grrr...!
