Gah, silly me, it doesn't work! So I *am* clueless after all. Sorry, I have
no idea. :/

  The more recent versions of PHP have a very useful function
  called print_r which dumps the complete contents of *any*
  variable (even arrays). Very useful for debugging.

  (If you're using it in a website context, you should make
  sure that you print <xmp>..</xmp> around it, though, or your
  output may look rather weird.)
