VERY VERY good point! SOmetime you just have an image that you want
irregular coordinates and so an image map is easier. Of you have a picture
and you want selected circles to be linked and nothing else. the options
are endless but if you do not want odd shapes or slected coordinates then
yes use sliced images, but be careful on tables sometimes as some browsers
like to screw them up.

Well, one case would be when an image isn't cut-up-able, like a map of the
US where each state should be clickable. Can't cut irregular shapes like
that.
But yeah, usually images that are cut-up are a little more flexible.
