[thelist] Combine CLASS attribute + STYLE attibute

This seems OK, and it validates, but I've never been able to find 
this in the standard or any documentation.
Is it proper to combine a CLASS attribute and a STYLE attibute within 
a SPAN element (or within any element tag that that can have these 
attributes)?

For example (if "small" is a class defined in the style sheet):

<SPAN Class="small" STYLE="color: #FF0000">small red text</SPAN>

or,

<P Class="small" STYLE="color: #FF0000">small red text</P>
