Learning "db stuff" in a month, eh? ... Whew! ... a tall order, that!   :-)

I'd recommend popping down to the bookstore and picking up the DuBois
"MySQL" book by New Riders ... and reading quickly!

I think I'd recommend the PHP route ... not 'cuz it's "better" ... but
because I think it's easier to find working examples and explanations of PHP
interacting with MySQL.  To that end I'd recommend the "PHP Programming"
book from Wrox.  [I have several Perl books - but, personally, I find it
easier to find MySQL examples in the Wrox PHP book.]
