[thelist] Staving Off Photo Thieves

There are several applet based programs out there that allow
you to display your images using a viewer or download through
an applet.

How do they protect your images? If you try to right click to
save it prevents that, if you try to do a screen grab the applet
or viewer instead displays a "wallpaper" of sorts over the image
area.

The best example of an application which does this is Alchemedia's
Clever Content. This page sums up how it works
http://www.alchemedia.com/products/clever_content.html

I've seen it used on professional photographers sites, and it works
well. I dont like the fact that it requires you to install the
viewer, but for this degree of image protection it may be worth it.

I think I would go with watermark's, digimarc's and or a nice
lawsuit. I can't imagine how you couldn't win a case like this,
but i can see where it might take some time.

mike.
