Have a look at http://www.reportlab.com/ http://www.pdflib.com and
http://www.stillhq.com/cgi-bin/getpage?area=panda&page=index.htm - all
different libs for doing what you want, with different feature sets and
hooks for other languages. (Also, I know pdflib uses a free/business
licensing model depending on what you want to do, not sure 'bout the
others, but I'll bet they're cheaper than the ActivePDF solution.
Probably harder work tho'!)
