[thelist] meta tag for charset=iso-8859-1

is there a reason not to use this meta tag? --

  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
          content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

with apologies, i cannot remember where i heard it, in fact i cannot
remember if i heard it correctly...

oh heck, i cannot remember anything now except ...

.. that maybe you needn't bother including this tag in your page's html,
since that's the default header that the web server is supposed to send,
assuming the web server has been set up correctly

can anybody elaborate?  one of you servervolken?

yes, and it doesn't hurt to be on one or more other lists, if only for the
constant reminder of how good thelist really is...
