[thelist] issue with templates in dreamweaver

Thanks, but it isn't that. I want my final pages to read: "contact.html"
whereever they are saved in.
so I can have:
/uk/index.html
/uk/contact.html
and
/fr/index.html
/fr/contact.html

with both index.html coming from the same template..

But I think I figured it out, you know the simple effort of articulating a
question helps in answering it yourself.
I'll try it only tomorrow because it's already late and I am sure it will
work:
define the links as editable zones. Then the template will have no
changing-power over them.

That's a fix I think, not a real explanation of how to control my template
without using editable zones.
