Hi you all,

I need to get something of my chest. This discussion is in MHO getting to
much of a "money" discussion. A few amongst you will probably think I am
just crazy, others may think I am an idealist, but I still believe the
internet is for everybody. For instance, I am quite sure no client will
object to the fact that you make their website accessible to everybody, and
you know what else? I don't charge extra for that. If a client wants a
flashy website, I am making a double website for no extra cost, just because
I think it is part of the standard work you do as a designer or a developer.

I am not a marketing specialist and I am only 3 years in this trade, first
as a designer now more and more as a developer. I was employed for two years
in some internet companies here in Belgium and now I am for about 1 year on
my own feet but I can assure you, I have no lack of work and I earn a pretty
good living. But to me the most important thing is that I get job
satisfaction and I you can be sure, I have no shortage on that side....

My clients are mostly in the small or middle group of companies and here in
Belgium it has been an issue even on a government level that too little
companies from that group were making the step to the internet. You know why
in my opinion? Because of the high prices.... with a little ingenuity it is
not difficult to make a site that is attractive, accessible and user
friendly and most of all payable for the smaller companies.

I also like working for these companies. Why? There are no marketing
departments you have to deal with, most of the time you are dealing with one
or at a most a few managers. If they are satisfied with your work, they show
the website in return to their suppliers or clients and that way I never
have shortage of work. Some people are only happy working for the big shots,
I am happy working for another part of the market, so my advice is: "let
everybody do the work they like to do, without pressing your opinion on
them".

Anybody got a problem with that?

Greetings,

Eveline
