Kicking puppies is evil.

I think separate text links are coolio. In my experience, alt tags on image
maps don't work very well cross-browser and there's always the possibility
that images won't load. If the image map containing the navigation doesn't
load then the user is screwed.

I have just never been a fan of image maps and especially not for
navigation.
