Nice thread - I've heard of some books I haven't seen yet.

To present a slight twist: If you have some background in coding you might
want to take the "two book" route that I'm following:

* Professional PHP Programming - Wrox
* MySQL - New Riders  [This is the Paul DuBois book that is generally pretty
highly regarded as a good reference for MySQL.]

That way you've got some pretty solid reference material in both areas.
