How to deal with Viruses suspected to be received from an e-mail list: was (RE: [thelist] VIRUS!!)

Evening/Morning Evolters,
Having been on some pretty shabby list in the past(not this one) I have had
to deal with issues when I felt people from a list were trying to send me
viruses or were just plain evil in off list replies.

If this happens to you contact your list admin with the specifics and let
them track it down before accusing anyone on a list. List admins are here
to help things run smoothly. If it turns out that someone was sending
viruses intentionally they will be banned from the list. They can probably
help you take actions off list by giving you contact information to report
their abuse to the appropriate ISP.(assuming you can't find this on your
own)

You open yourself up for flaming when you accuse anyone on an email list of
being malicious.
Try to save yourself the hassle of dealing with things like this.

Sorry DJC(and anyone else administering our great list) if I am making your
life more complicated, but this is probably something that should be in the
rules of thelist.(if it isn't already)

We all value the opinion of everyone on this list. Sometimes we say things
that get interpreted the wrong way. Please keep an open mind and remember
that we are here to help each other.

Since this really isn't OT because it applies to everyone on this list and I
am a lackey when it comes to tips I will leave a suggestion. I swear I will
find a tip worthy of this list one day! Of course you could just call the
above a tip. :)

<suggestion type="antiviral software">
If your tired of having Norton and/or McAfee crash your windows box and
hogging all your resources, try out Command Anti-Virus. www.commandcom.com
It is very gentle on resources and so far after 2 years) I have never had a
virus get past it, or a system crash because of it, on all Windows DOS's. It
is a yearly subscription based product but I think it is well worth
it.</suggestion>

And I am not affiliated with Command Antivirus, I just think it is the best.

Thanks,
Brad Miller
