[thelist] Beginner Question on XML

Hi all --

They say "there are no dumb questions ..." so here goes:

I enjoyed the look of the form dante at vianet.net.au created (former e-mail
under "Dynamic Form Javascript Coding" heading) at
http://www.vianet.net.au/~dante/xml/input_form.html
but noticed it was in an xml directory.

I'm curious as to what exactly the difference is between XML and HTML? I
looked at the code on dante's form and most of it looked like HTML to me.
(Sorry to use you as an example Dante ... for lack of a better one, okay?)

Anyway, I have long since mastered HTML backwards and forwards. I'm totally
comfortable with style sheets and feel like I've been able to work around
some of its more obnoxious HTML qualities to be able to translate even some
of the more difficult visual design concepts into HTML (although there have
been one or two challenges when working with some designers! <g>)

However, because of this familiarity with HTML, I have been a bit of an
ostrich when it comes to learning "dynamic HTML" or XML or any of the other
terms bandied about. Anyone care to tackle giving me a definition and
sample of some of these terms?

Thanks in advance,

Lindalu2
