Thanks to those who responded. I'll try to clarify things a bit.
 I am trying to connect to a Progress database.  It uses Merant drivers for
ODBC connectivity.
I havent set that up yet but I'm familiar with ODBC and won't have a problem
with that.Clients are running Win2k and the IIS server is NT4 as well as the
database sever.
For now lets forget about the "custom query". I just need to get data to and
from the database for now.
I'm thinking that learning curve is going to be steep enough.
